In Islam, there are five daily prayers that Muslims are required to perform. These prayers are made up of a specific number of Rakat (units of prayer). The 17 or 40 Rakat prayer is not a standard prayer in Islam. The five daily prayers are Fajr (2 Rakat), Dhuhr (4 Rakat), Asr (4 Rakat), Maghrib (3 Rakat), and Isha (4 Rakat), totaling 17 Rakat in a day. Therefore, the correct number of Rakat to pray is 17, not 40. **

In Islam, the number of Rakat one should pray varies depending on the specific prayer being performed. The 17 Rakat prayer is known as the Tahajjud prayer, which is a voluntary prayer that can be performed at night. On the other hand, the 40 Rakat prayer is not a standard prayer in Islam and is not mentioned in the Quran or Hadith. Therefore, it is recommended to follow the prescribed number of Rakat for each prayer as outlined in Islamic teachings. **
